C21 Learning Literacy professional learning and development are based on the following ideals.

Transformative Literacy Learning

"Insanity is continuing to do the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Albert Einstein"

Will we do more of the same or take a fresh look at our literacy practices in order to accomplish our goal to raise student learning and achievement levels in literacy.

C21 Learning Literacy professional learning and development are based on the following ideals.

  • Our goal for literacy professional learning is for students to develop a love for reading and writing, grow in confidence and feel motivated to take risks, self assess and persist in monitoring themselves. Our literacy programmes should support students as they strive for accuracy and precision. In these ways we will raise student learning and achievement levels in literacy through enhanced teaching practices.
  • Teachers will have a clear and shared understanding of the reading and writing process and how to effectively implement it in the classroom. Teachers will be confident literacy teachers because of consistent instructional practices and effective pedagogy.
  • A clear understanding of how to gather and report on data will be developed. School-based exemplars will be analysed or created to form writing matrices showing expected achievement in relation to the Writing Standards.
  • A more holistic in approach in literacy will occur through simultaneous development of clear literacy objectives and the key competencies. Engagement and purpose will be carefully planned and will include making connections to the students real lives.
